Anyone who’s done much in the way of home remodeling or renovation can tell you that there are some projects you can do on your own and some that you should leave to the pros. Part of that comes down to the experience and tools you have. Another factor is what sort of material you’re dealing with. When it comes to floor installations, some types of flooring are a lot easier to install than others.

Luxury Vinyl Tile

There’s a reason vinyl has become such a popular type of flooring lately. It looks great, is easy to maintain, and is pretty durable. If that weren’t reason enough to choose luxury vinyl tile for your new floor, consider that it’s something you should be able to install yourself pretty easily. You have two choices here: click-together vinyl planks or peel-and-stick vinyl tiles. Both options are ridiculously easy to install and don’t require a ton of equipment or expertise.

Cork Planks

Like luxury vinyl tile, cork planks can come in snap-together planks, making them a good choice for a DIY installation. It’s naturally hypoallergenic and eco-friendly, which makes it an attractive flooring option for the clean, eco-minded homeowner. That said, it isn’t waterproof the way vinyl is, so you’ll need to think carefully about where you’re putting it if you choose to go with cork.

Carpet Tiles

Carpet doesn’t have to be a huge pain to install, not when you have carpet tiles. No carpet stretcher needed here. Carpet tiles come in the peel-and-stick format, similar to some vinyl tiles. That makes for a pretty simple installation. There are a ton of different styles, colors, and patterns to choose from. That said, going with something patterned can throw a bit of extra complexity into your project. You’ll need to pay attention to how and where you’re placing tiles so everything fits together nicely. Again, pay attention to where you’re installing them, since no form of carpet is good to have in rooms that are prone to having water on the floor.

If you’re hankering to replace your flooring and want to do it yourself, the type of flooring you choose to go with will make a huge difference in how easy it is to succeed. There are plenty of DIY-friendly floorings that you can choose from. Luxury vinyl tile, cork planks, and carpet tiles are just a few options out there. With all the variety, you’re bound to find something you’ll like.
